More like the rennaissance would have occured earlier if there wasn't a plague at all. To answer OP though, most countries would be scaled down. As long as deaths were completely random and affected everyone equally then life would go on but smaller. Less need for resources would be better for the environment too.

Its not the far side of the moon, I know that.
But once you've seen one grey cratered lump of rock you've seen them all.
I want to say mercury has more bright streaks from some of the craters like tycho on the moon.
