Humans have come to eat meat, and it provides us with the most-efficient source of all the essential amino acids we need. Yes we can get those amino acids from a combination of rice and beans or whatever, but it's not as efficient, and those foods are loaded with carbs and shit (well the rice is).
So this is why humans crave meat. It allows us to be stronger, and since we're competing against other humans in the game of life, most of us have no desire to give up meat.
