I was looking to make an oxygen generator/CO2 sink to keep in my room as a pandemic project and I've narrowed it down to either an electrolysis box or some kind of algae with a grow light.
I would use sodium hydroxide as the electrolyte and bubble room air through the solution to scrub CO2 into the solution as carbonate the only things I'm not sure of is how I'd replenish the hydroxide and release the built up CO2. I would need to build a DC power supply though electricity usage isnt really a concern unless it turns out to be way higher than expected to make any noticeable amount.
The other option is an algae colony. I think this would clean more CO2 but wouldn't produce as much oxygen but I'm not sure. Another benefit is I wouldn't have to worry about removing and disposing of hydrogen.
What do you think /sci/? any advice or experience?
