With all the wide ranges of animals it can hit does this bode badly for the idea of a vaccine since the more species reservoirs it has the more it can mutate in those reservoirs and clash with other mutations in different reservoirs?

Though there supossedly is a large market for vaccines for coronavirus in felines, through all this time, none has bern developed. And I think it would have given money.. There is no vaccine for SARS either...

Anyway, look up zoonosis. A virus can easily jump between species, as a virus is operating at the scale of DNA/RNA. This is how so many diseases remain persistent across time and space. As the basic premise for transmission are the relationships between viral surface proteins and the host's various receptors.

The more generalized the relationship becomes, the transmission rate increases. Until it reverts to a more specialised state, as there are trade offs between generalisation and specialisation, due to the limited capacity of the virus for DNA/RNA.
