practice not by using books
do questions by questions, for hours is necessary
refer to the solution only if you can't solve it in 2 days
take note of the new concepts etc
work your way up from AMC, AIME, USAJMO, USAMO, IMO
try questions from less known countries' olympiads

in my opinion books will not work as effective
you actually have to go out of your way to develop your own style, the one that you are the most comfortable in
as an example my favourite way for geometry was to draw as many lines as possible and do angle chasing etc, it's retarded but it kinds of work
I got into IMO selection camp (things did not work out but oh well)

oh you mean the basics? yes learn the basic theories and concepts first but for the techniques don't refer to books
I used ZLibrary (b-ok.cc) for my books, maybe they also have what you are looking for there
My favourites are Arthur Engel for combinatorics and anything from Titu Andreescu, especially Number Theory: Structures, Examples, and Problems
However, do practices, samples and past papers from AoPS this is the most important part

The AoPS books have a bunch of questions that they pull from things like AMC for their lower level textbooks. Why would you assume a textbook has no practice problems?

it was not that impressive, all I did was bullshitting my way through
just make sure to include detailed solutions and explain the steps clearly, patience and diligence are the key
but yea there were better candidates than me, one of my close friend got a gold medal and I'm really proud of him! he is currently in Waterloo doing math iirc
I'm waiting for my undergrad in computer engineering rn
