Can I sterilize / disinfect an ffp3 face mask by placing it in a sealed bag in the freezer for 24 hours? If not can I use isopropylic alchool (pure) diluted with water as disinfectant, what %? Thanks.

Does the freezer temperature kill viruses? Does the mask material 'survive' the temperature without degrading? Suppose you don't bend or manipulate the mask and let it defrosr on a surface. Other way i've imagined is nebulizing / spraying alchool+water on the mask and let it dry for 24 hours. Im worried if the alchool degrades the mask. Both Iso and "regular pink alchool".

you cannot sterilize it, unless you can somehow manage to slowly freeze and quickly unfreeze the mask. disinfection is the same thing, cold stuff doesn't really kill most of the shit you'd worry about. 70% alcohol is the best % you should use. Several times more effective than 90%. All in all, sterilizing it yourself is pretty much impossible, but disinfecting? sure.

it just works that way, never got an answer from my bacteriologist teacher either, probably something to do with bacteria reacting to alcohol as a threat, 70% probably being the most toxic % at which bacteria don't really get to react. not sure on this, but this is what i'd hypothesize.

According to a study by Stanford you can sterilise n95 masks by putting them in the oven for 30 minutes at 70°C, but you should not use alcohol, it makes the mask become ineffective.

I have one n95 mask, and I go outside once every 4 days ish, in the meanwhile mask is resting on a dry shelf.

My reasoning is that anything bad that could end up on that mask will die in that time frame, am I wrong?

Slowly freezing is how it works by putting it in the freezer..you could quickly defrost it by oven at min temp

Temperature treatment would be more effective than disinfectant treatment, as long as you don't warp the mask. With a coronavirus you're dealing with something much smaller than bacteria, and warping the mask will create gaps in the filter. Disinfectant will also do this.

Another thing to be careful with is retaining the electrostatic charge that is used by the filter material to repel particulate matter.
