>>11532030Making the vaccine is the easy part. Several coronavirus vaccines have already been made and approved for human trials in the US and around the world. The 12-18 months is for clinical trials to determine effective dose, effective vehicle (the other components of the vaccine besides the viral antigens), whether re-doses are necessary, and any adverse reactions, among other considerations. A full year is the absolute bare minimum time for these trials from start to finish. Then after that, it'll be months for manufacturers to be able to crank out enough vaccines for everyone. I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but at least in the US, we're looking at fall to winter 2021 for full deployment of a vaccine.
