>>11527561Why be a researcher? If you're smart enough to do research then you're smart enough to get paid magnitudes more in industry/private sector. You could even do research for the government or industry and get paid way more than at a uni. Plus you aren't pressured to publish papers on a deadline for food stamp money.
But on another note, it doesn't matter. Well, you should hope it doesn't matter. If you want to teach at a top school you have 2 options:
1) be from a top school (you will be hired as a safe choice)
2) do important enough research that you become well-known in your field (you will be hired as a prestige/status symbol)
So unless you really don't see yourself making any real meaningful contributions to electrical engineering, the school you get you PhD from won't matter.
