Nor does it even work well for those that are phenotypically and culturally different, as those aren't often related to direct parental lineage, which is ultimately what determines how 'close' you are to someone genetically. Trying to neatly divide humans into monolithic races or ethnic groups on genetic bases is going to be a fool's errand. The two principal factors: phenotype (which visually defines different races for us) and lineage don't work in tandem, so you're going to have make arbitrary exceptions and inclusions which make the entire effort even more pointless. It's fundamentally doomed by the fact that its trying to do science backwards: trying to prove a conclusion one has already made through reverse-engineering, and trying to awkwardly and forcefully shoehorn data to make it work.
