depends i guess, i feel like some are there because they love to teach, others are there because they didn't belong in the industry
one I emailed about something he missed in the lecture and asked whether something i found about it was the right material, he never responded to, he wasn't even a professor but just a lecturer
on the other hand when i wrote to an actual professor to ask whether it'd be possible for him to send some additional materials about something, he sent me materials, invited for consultations, gave me a cup of tea on them and talked for an hour (it was before the quarantine)
