FTL in Science FIction

I'm working on a scifi that has a lower dimensional space that correlates on a 1/20(or some arbitrary ratio) scale to our space like how the nether works in minecraft. In this story there are also star trek style warp drives used frequently in our normal space. I want to change something else fundamental about the nether space to make it inconvenient but not impossible to use the warp drives inside it. I want it to be such that people typically use the nether space to travel short distances and warp drives in normal space for long distances.

The types of changes I had in mind were like increasing the speed of light to make fusion harder in the nether space or getting rid of gravity and increasing the strong force or something in the nether space. I don't know necessarily what these changes would do, I'm not a physics guy, but these are the types of fundamental changes I'm looking for, so long as they don't make your atoms fly apart or somehow kill you instantly otherwise. Also general discussion of FTL in science fiction I guess.
