Bats are essential, almost on the same tier as honey bees. Some populations are already in great danger and it is absolutely not a good thing.
More research into bats and how to protect and save them is far more important right now. Entire ecosystems are becoming even more fragile due to loss of bats. While those ecosystems might eventually adjust under ideal circumstances, there is so much other stress being put on every ecosystem of the planet right now that the loss of bats in some of them could cause them to collapse from a different direct vector. Loss of bats may not be attributed to a particular collapse, but indirectly their loss could assist other stresses that do kill particular ecosystems.
