This is my 15th day of the illness. I feel good as long as I sleep enough and don't exert myself.
Things got really bad on day 12, the shortness of breath returned even worse than on day 6.

I went into urgent care and the guy did a COVID test--but he barely scratched the inside of my nostril, didn't swab deep at all. He also did only one nostril. The test came back negative.

Before this I'd called the COVID hotline 10 days ago and requested a test, and still haven't heard back

Given my symptoms, and the ubiquity and contagion of COVID, I'm still 95% sure I have it. Shortness of breath is not a flu symptom, and I've never had it before.

The guy who made this post has symptoms similar to mine. Why are so many people who clearly have COVID testing negative?

IMO there are two reasons:
- the tests are complete shit
- intention undercounting
- the virus mutated and is no longer detectable by the test

It's worrying that this virus seems to take weeks/months to clear.

Mass hysteria. People THINK they have it, and the mind makes it real.
A tip: one of the symptoms publicly listed as a result of corvid is not actually a symptom, but a filter added to help sort people actually afflicted from those who just think they have it. If they seem to not care after you list your symptoms, you probably listed the false one.

I had two bouts of shortness of breath, one week apart. Gets better, then gets worse.

I haven't had shortness of breath, but I have had mild joint and back pain, combined with a mild fever and a sore/scratchy throat and a dry cough. This was two weeks ago. I'm over it now except for a congestion that won't go away.

Did I have it and not even realize it? The symptoms seem to range from all or none of those symptoms.

You don't think every nation went into this completely blind, do you? There are pandemic tests. Simulations. Real world data. Everyone knew how people would react, it was just a question of how fast the real illness would spread, how dangerous it would be, and just how many would only think they have it. The easiest solution is a little white lie.

This is also why everyone is saying the same thing: If you think you're sick, stay home unless you NEED medical care. "I have a cough" is not needing medical care. "I'm having trouble breathing" is. Know the difference, and save your doctor's time.

okay, I'm just trying to understand this illness.
I had these symptoms >>11516931 several weeks back and I'm trying to determine if that was it, or not. I lost sense of smell for several days, but mostly because of my sinuses running. At the time, I thought it was a cold because no cases were reported in the US yet, but now I'm hearing that those cases were probably here for a while and it was more that no one reported on it.

Not sure what to think.

When I had it, you can def fell the chest tightness is coming from a fuck ton of debris in your lungs. I also have anxiety and I have had panic attacks, I could tell the difference. Some of these frightened idiots might not though.

The main symptoms are common for so many things, gradual onset fever and cough. It's mostly diagnosis by exclusion. If your physician appears to not care after you saying something, it's because they think you have something else.

There is no misleading symptoms published, that's just bad science.

Mostly shit. I haven't hear of any that anyone is claiming are 100%. Washington state just last week sent back something like 70,000 kits from a batch that they determined were only registering a true positive 30% of the time. For the first two months of the outbreak in Chine, there were a number of reports claiming 50% accuracy for positive, up to about 80% but no better.

There are different test kits and people who administer them have different training and individual variation in how many fucks they have to give about doing it right. U.S. test kits were developed from scratch and put into production without adequate quality testing, or even verifying how good the methodology is or how accurate the tests are.

The fiasco in Washington (also Oregon) is a huge tell. There is incredible variation in batches of test kits how accurate they are, apart from how individuals take swabs & process the swabs. I haven't seen any reporting on false positives (apart from normal rare cases), but there have been quite a few reports of false negatives. It's hard to put a number on false negatives because there's so much chaos right now, but it looks like, in the U.S. with it's incredibly rushed test kit development, it's probably in the 20% range. Some indications point to it being significantly over that, which can depend upon a particular batch rather than "good batches" or the overall effort everywhere..

It can last 3 to 5 weeks AFTER you become symptomatic, assuming there aren't other complications. For some people, this can mean carrying it for 10-15 days without symptoms that are particularly noticeable. hen some start to show and you strongly suspect or know you've got it. Maybe it clears ion two weeks, but it can be five weeks before you test clear.

There are also confirmed cases of people who were completely cleared and sent home, then showed up infected again two to tree weeks later. Nobody is sure at this time if they got completely re-infected, or if it is somehow below the detection level at the time they were cleared and it then flared back up. There is substantial investigation into this right now, but confirmed cases for study only showed up about three weeks ago, so it's a whole new investigation, which needs to be conducted in the middle of the rest of the emergency.

Except, if as you say, they DO have it but are missing that fake symptom and don't go to the doctor, they'll still be following the recommended procedure almost to the letter: stay home, keep quarantined especially if you feel ill, and only go the the hospital if you have a threatening issue.

From the CDC:
