Finished pre calculus a couple of years ago with mediocre grades, but need to go through it again in order to qualify for entrance into a university. Mainly up to calculus 1. a year.

learn number systems up to complex very well.
Learn what language, axioms and proofs are.
If you are learning something and see a word or symbol you don't understand, pause and learn what the word or symbol means before continuing. Read mathematical text carefully, recite it and continue to then next subject.
Study foundational mathematics.
Write down the things and summaries of concepts you are learning, go over it regularly so you won't forget it.
Re-learn and go over what you think you know from learning math when you were a kid. You'll probably see it differently now.

Not op, but I am usually good at "understanding" math, ie the "words" behind it, so to speak. The explanation and logical part, but I suck at actually putting it into "math problems" per se.
For example, I can understand this lecture series on complex quaternions but I know that I probably wouldn't be able to do the calculations (haven't tried tho).

At your level, math is just memorizing methods to work problems. Break each problem into steps, and even sub-steps until each step/sub step seems obvious to you. There is a "way" to solve every single problem that any math professor may assign you. This is why proofs are important. A proof is a plain old demonstration of the "way" to solve some problem using techniques that have already been discovered and are considered obvious and well known.

Ignore the "bigger picture". That will come as you advance. Right now just focus on one step at a time. Follow the procedures like a good little monkey. When you progress to higher levels you will see the forest. Right now you can only see the trees because you're in the forest.
