No one takes lab safety seriously.
I come back from a lab safety class (the one you take before participating in that lab) and my PI is casually wearing open-toed sandals and shorts. Once I saw a girl in my lab wear her clubbing outfit (she was doing some lab work before going clubbing on a Saturday) and not wear a lab coat while working in the fume hood.
I didn't actually care, I just found it amusing how little people take lab safety seriously.
