Because humans do well in concentrated actions that require pooled resources. But are sub-par in broad efforts that require allocating to everyone appropriately. This is why poverty is still a thing and everyone doesn't have their own castle/ mansion.

Covid-19 went straight for industrial capitalism's weak spot e.g. the inability to actually satisfy high demand. There was never enough supply in the health industry to service such a demand and things such as waiting rooms, appointments, insurance were done to act as buffers between millions of people who go through health care. When you take those buffer zones away you get this. Which is probably what scared the living shit out of medical experts. The house of cards finally fell down.
