while it is very short and "cute" , it is not elegant at all, its just a way to brag really and not even a very advanced one at that

x' = kx is an extremely important mathematical model which appears everywhere in natural sciences. you can describe it in a complete layman's terms: the growth is proportional to the amount. it's fairly easy to see that the solution must be some form of exponentation. and "e" is what we call the base.

It's not e that was coincidentally the number that makes logs easy,
but it was the property of this number to make logs easy, that made us call it "e".

Of course it shows up in a lot of places too

If you truly came up with this on your own, you should easily be able to prove from your definition that $e$ is equal to $\lim_{n \to \infty}\left( 1+\frac{1}{n} \right)^n$
In other words, by what right do you declare your defined constant to be the same as the one defined by Bernoulli? You should also be able to prove on your own that your ODE even has a solution.
If you can't prove both of these, you by no means "came up with this on your own."

Jeeze. Define the function ln $:\mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}$ by ln $(x) = \int_1^x 1/t dt.$ Then define exp as the inverse function of ln, and let $e =$ exp(1). This is first year high-school stuff.

Sure, when you first come across the idea you won't have the machinery to actually express it mathematically. You do have words though. It is not very difficult at all for a curious person, once they've been introduced to the idea of a derivative, to ask "is there a function that plots its own derivative" which is exactly the same thing.
