>>11501546Depends exactly what you mean by Eugenics. An enforced programme aiming for some arbitrary stereotypical traits is retarded. On the other hand social eugenics, a set of societal incentives for people to aspire to good parenting, education, innovation and critical thinking, morality and ethics, among other things, would lead to achieving space colonization without compromising diversity within the gene pool. You could achieve that quite easily under a benevolent dictatorship, sim city style, type of government. Basically directing the vast majority of surplus wealth and productivity towards technology and science. Granting massive tax breaks to productive and intelligent people, giving them financial incentives to raise families, while applying disincentives to breed to unproductive and unintelligent people. Just having to meet set criteria to have children would suffice. The economy would have to be structured quite differently in some respects.
But it will never happen under present circumstances though. Human society is far too hamstrung by frivolous consumerism, international competition and archaic political systems. Too much is wasted, too little social cohesion, and a pervading lack of higher goals. The most taboo aspect is restricting people's right to breed. That will never be broken in any Western society, the Chinese did it but didn't apply incentives to creative thinking, so they raised generations of people unable to think for themselves. Bit of a Catch-22 there too, as a dictatorship does not want independently minded citizens, while a socity full of independantly minded citzens will never support the political structure needed to enforce social eugenics.
Just for the tip of the iceberg: Look how much is spent on social welfare and military budgets, Imagine if most of that was devoted to space exploration and the development of relevant space faring technology.
