When is Betelgeuse going to pop? From where I live a few years ago it was the brightest star in Orion, and now it's noticably a lot dimmer while the bottom-right-corner star Rigel is the brightest.

If I remember that one semester of astronomy I took in college as a science elective fluff, it occurs when a star reaches 30% of its original size. is that true?
