The massive problem with investment in space is that to see profits you will need at least 3-4 decades at loss and since people live 80-100 years these days...

Right now the private space sector merely exists because it's heavily subsidized by governments and sone hobby venture for few billionaires.

There's not much else to be mining apart from perhaps hydrocarbons.

So this is ideal for a stock-issuing corporation. Some people put up some money up front hoping that in 100 year it'll be worth 100 times as much, instead of just 30 times as much if they'd left it in the stock market. mean times, the value increases as there's more space travel so it's needed more, or decreases as other tech comes to supercede the original and make water cheaper in space
