Why is resistance different from reactance/impedance?

resistance is basically a material property (depending on material things like what it's made of, temperature, pressure, stuff like that). it tells you how DC current flows. impedance is analogous in terms of how AC current flows, but if there is capacitance or inductance in your circuit, that affects how AC currents flow too (though they don't do anything for DC currents), so impedance takes those into account those things as well. so impedance folds in some circuit properties along with the material properties

Is there a scientific name for the types of functions in ops picture. If not I'll call them wavy functions and the definitions is ax^2 then -(bx^2) weighted, so they line up and at different parts you know.

Reactance is just a specific kind of impedance.
Reactance delays the wave whilst capacitance moves the signal forward.
(If im not mistaken I always mix this 2 up to my great shame lmao)
