But as someone with a background in economics, my concern (at present) is in regards to the negative externalities at play: even if the virus weren't a big deal (which it is), all it takes is the healthcare system working at full capacity to cause the deaths of many people who go into hospital for different reasons (e.g.: accidents, heart attacks, strokes). This is likely to produce several thousands of deaths.
As for the financial meltdown we're already experiencing, I can't say for sure what will happen. But it seems to me that the age of monetary stimuli, including quantitative easing, is past. Fiscal stimuli may have considerable effects, but only if governments have sufficient resources; that's a big if.
