And don't think you can just megadose Zinc.
Your body only absorbs a limited amount and excretes the rest.
And worse, Zn competes with copper for absorption, so high doses of Zn induce a Cu deficiency.
I was taking 50mg Zn regularly, and endedup with a Cu deficiency, though thankfully just a subclinical one, besides borderline anemia.
Also, Zn, at least the gluconate compound, causes xerostomia, which is the number one risk factor (per CAMBRA) for dental caries.
Try it yourself. Take a high dose of Zn, say 25 or 50mg, and your oral mucosa will feel much drier within a few hours.
