I love reading scientific papers but whenever it gets to the math symbols part I just skip over it. Am I a bad person?

I once read a paper where the author laboriously wrote out mathematical formulas to draw a line in pixels. There was no explanation in english of what this was. It was not an important part of the paper. It was just a test to see what the algorithm would do if given images of lines.

I had to work through it step by step for 15 minutes to figure out what it was.

There was another section where they XORed a bunch of booleans together. They could have just said "and then we do this thing based on whether there are an odd or even number of ones." Because that's what the purpose was. But they didn't say that and you had to reverse engineer why it was XORing these things together.

Peple write math like really bad programmers. One letter undescriptive variable names. No comments. As much packed into one line as possible.
