How Significant are infrared thermometers in stopping the exponential growth of COVID-19?

Having watched footage of how China initiated their Lockdown, it’s obvious that these thermometers are hugely efficient at quickly identifying people who are potentially at the peak of their contagiousness without even knowing it. I definitely feel like this is a valuable strategy and feel like they should be mass produced and implemented globally.
