Maybe if the most complex thing you're studying is a plant, but even then you have to account for a lot more variables than you do in "muh closed system reaction." Biology has far reaching implications for in a variety of very important fields, and there is a massive leap to go from "applied chemistry" to actual biology, even molecular biology.
