You know the "flattening the curve" thing that is being promoted? That WON'T lower the number of infections: Its the same number of people being infected. What it IS is a manageable number of people being infected at a time, over time, rather than all at once. So as to avoid overstressing our medical capacity and cause more deaths due to lack of beds (like in italy where they're having to practice triage).
If your plan is basically "almost everyone's going to get infected", then you might as well control how the infection plays out by taking the lowest risk group at the start and infecting them in a controlled manner before quarantining them (So as they can't infect others, so this method shouldn't increase overall "wild" infections), in order to control the speed of people becoming immune to it.
