Well 49 is almost 50 and sqrt(50)=5 since sqrt(100)=10, just use approximations

You answered your own question. No calculators allowed means the professor is forced to give you nice numbers to work with. Stuff that a high schooler could easily manage in his head.

If calculators were allowed then professors are free to give you problems that involve nasty and tedious expressions that don't give nice answers and that sucks.

You can get a square root by testing different values
For example, if you want to calculate the square root of 30 you can start by finding between which two naturals it is (in this case it will be between 5 and 6 since 52=25<30<36=62)
Then you just do (55*55)/100 and check, if it's bigger than 30 you try approximations above 5.5 if it's lower than 30 you try approximations below 5.5
In less than 2 minutes you should have an approximation decent enough

2sin(3x) + cos(2x) actually isn't a particularly easy graph to draw by inspection. You can simplify it and put some work into certain things like recognizing that your common period is going to be 6?, but aside from that and checking values at certain intervals there isn't really much of a great way to eyeball combination of sinusoids of different periods and amplitudes.

Yeah, sure man. It's definitely possible but it's not exactly an easy graph to eyeball. I could see that being a valuable exercise in a semester calc course exactly a super pragmatic kind of graph to have a feel for intuitively all things considered. Maybe if you're an electrical engineering major focusing on communications or something but even then you get used to general shapes like a DSB modulated wave or something rather than just some random combination of two different frequency sinusoids.

Well, you can program functions on the graphing calculators that every calculus class wants you to buy that solves the equation for you while also shitting out the steps it takes along the way, so that might be it. You can also program plaintext into it so you have a cheatsheet saved to memory.

By the time I got into college, I had became so overly dependent on the calculator that my arithmetic had atrociously atrophied. While I could easily solve integrals, equations, and all that stuff, simple arithmetic took me far more time than it should.
