The same organic compound that gives shit and farts its off-putting smell, smells like flowers in low concentration. Actually; it's even found _in_ some flowers and in essential oils. And it's a major component in many perfumes; colognes; etc. where it serves as fragrance or aroma compound.

Biologically there's a thin line between awful and pleasant and for some the breaking point is placed awkwardly far out of the bounds of the accepted societal norm.
