In a documentary about Richard Feynman he said he learned calculus from these books when he was 13.
The first editions are from 1931. This got me to thinking about the word books.
In Español it’s libros from Latin liber. which is where we get words like library, liberty, liberation.
Ever since this documentary, I look at pics of old scientists in front of a chalkboard wall and I begin to see it a language - a way of communication. This harrows me with fear and wonder. my shit public school was just rote and i never understood the concept of “thinking mathematically”
Will calculus liberate me? Not so much in the science careers, but in everyday Life?
How so?
I want these books.
