What about ChemE? I'm a 1st year EE student thinking about swtching to ChemE. Am I making a mistake? I heard ChemE is a lot more theoretical which is just what I am looking for. Some of the topics interest me greatly, like thermodynamics and mass and heat transfer, while others seem a bit bored and mundana, namely design of piping systems, equipment in chemical plants, design of heat exchangers. Should I power through EE or make the switch?

EE is still the best. Once you get into your higher level classes you will see you made the right choice. If the theoretical is really your niche specialize in semiconductor physics.
