it just means that on average particles that travell will distribute themselves uniformly as time passes

you can do this experiment with dots on a square-grid paper and roll a dice which determines the direction of the dots. after a couple of rounds the dots will approach uniformity

Man when I first learned that gas particles don't interact it blew my mind. Thinking about how a tire is able to hold up a quarter of a car just because the probability works out to enough random-ass bounces against the walls.

Basically it's a property of Gibb's free energy.lets take liquid as the phase for the example.i take food color and drop it into water.after some time I will see that it dissolved into the water and that the phase is homogeneous. diffusion happened because the molecular forces are the same in water as in the food coloring.now if I repeat the same example with water and oil no diffusion will happen due to the fact that the molecular forces are not compatible with each other (polar and non polar ).so in the macroscopic Sense it's a force that happens because of the different environments the particle can be in.its related to chemical potential if you want to read more(you study it in thermo 2)
