Unironically, why do Americans do this? Why choose to specifically stack up on toilet paper more than anything else considering coronavirus doesn't give you eternal diahrrea or something like that? Why not stack up on disinfectant or soap instead?

Two things:
1. Herd mentality
2. It'll be the first and most valuable thing in relation to overall hygiene to disappear in the collapse of supply lines, second to food.
Unless you have access to a bidet, what do you intend to wipe your end with? Towels and clothes that can't be replaced?
