They did conversion therapy in the 60s and 70s which is similar to what you are describing and it was unsuccessful, in fact they made everything worse. Various studies have shown that interventions that allow transgenders to live as desired gender actually are helpful and demonstrate positive outcomes. Outdated, ineffective treatments are generally less frequently employed than the ones that actually do work which is why it is rare to see conversion therapy being used in gender dysphoria.
