I know people who started smoking after being offered a ciggarete after being arrested.
If you have any stress to substance mechanism, that helps you live out, or bounce back to baseline, ciggaretes may be your substitution, but it's not enought.
Actually it's even a way of procrastinating... Or it's just you want to do it because you did it, and before it helped you with errors you made... It was escape or something.
A while for being alone and thinking and breating, it has that aspect in common with mediation, but if you haven't meditated but inhaled smoke, you expect inhaled smoke not meditation to help you.
And once you happen to be "I'll smoke this one and I'll do it" you may happen to have really wrong addiction and you have to learn how to do same thing without it which may be hard.
Actually they seem relaxing, but they concentrate your moment of relaxation to a point, they may help focus, you see, it scored almost like coffee, and together it's a boost that you can actually reach beyond levels of stimulation which is marked as doping on olympics.
Some people are unsadisfied with their lives so much, they just want to do more, and they file there's a little bit more somewhere.
