Why do you think Abe, Moon and Jinping all panicked and had ASAP meetings with Trump in the first month after inauguration? Obama, Bush, Clinton etc did not have shitloads of summits in their first 100 days. Trump did, and that's because the rest of the world saw the writing on the wall and begged for his attention.
They could have done literally anything with their economies and they would have spent 1995-2015 going up. Soon, however, they are gonna have to learn how to do quality instead of quantity if they want their countries to continue to matter. And for that, Europe is the competition.
