Life is made of carbon bonds though, and viruses/prokaryotes don't have the complexity to form strong polymer barriers which resist organic solvents and oxidizers. Prions are a different story. Some of them don't expose particularly weak bonds, meaning a 1N NaOH + 2% sodium hypochlorite soak for an entire hour is necessary to remove them completely from medical instruments. This would melt your hands.
