Do you think there is a slim chance we could find something advanced within the depths of our oceans?

To advance a civilization, you need a source of energy that could allow you harvest nutrients much more efficiently and promote brain growth. In our case, we used fire.
In the sea, there is no such thing as a way to cook anything as the only "artificial" source of heat comes from hydrothermal vents located at the very bottom.

To create a civilization, you need building materials. Guess what? No such thing as metals in the sea. Even rocks are deteriorated readily by the ocean currents if it wasn't held in place by coral reefs, which takes ages to grow.

Heck, an intelligent creature is declared based on their ability to create a complex language and a written language that could allow them to pass their knowledge. Such a thing is impossible in the sea

The sea makes up 70% of the Earth's surface but holds just 10% of living creatures. Funny that.

I think you forget that the first building materials man used was sand and mud.

Dolphins have determinable language and even the use of names in some species. Language can also be nonverbal as well but I'll humor you on verbal language. I'm curious as to why you would think language doesn't exist even though sound travels faster through denser mediums.

That is not true and you should read more. Scientists estimate that the majority of all life is aquatic and this makes sense because of the vast amount of biodiversity found in regions like the great barrier reef. I'm not really including amphibious life either because op seems more concerned with singly aquatic life although I'm sure if a species was advanced enough to avoid contact with us, they would likely be able to exist on both land and sea.

I share your intrigue of the possibility but as we understand civilization progress. The ocean could theoretically provide a nurturing arena for intelligent lifeform development but the sheer competition and random environmental changes probably didn't allow for any single species to dominate.

I saw a video on what op referenced a long time ago but I can vouch. Also, cephalopods are smart, at least in comparison to fish, crabs, etc. Octopi, for example, can escape jars that they are encapsulated in by pressing their suckers to the inside of the lid and literally twisting it from the inside. Not to mention the active camouflaging ability and perceptive hunting strategies.

tool use has, curiously, only been observed in a single group of dolphins, where the same species in other places has not been observed to use tools. IIRC they used some kind of sponge to throw up rocks and stuff.
