That implies the set E of explanations of physical phenomena can be embedded simultaneously with an order by complexity and a metric such that E has a subset S that is dense in itself. Thus "something in the middle" isn't necessarily defined. Also "something in the middle" is necessarily more complex than the simplest explanation.

I would just have to put some thought into how precisely to put the already-known definition (your knowing what is meant) into accurate words -- like necessarily the complement of simplest and complicated, and contingently only part of the simplest or complicated. I know precisely what is meant by a solution in radicals to the general quintic, yet no solution exists. I know precisely what is meant by a complete, consistent, recursively enumerable mathematical model, yet none exist. Big words that fit together grammatically in some kind of vague concept don't make something correct just because "you know what I meant."
