Advice on finding an advisor

No.11457687 ViewReplyOriginalReport
For the past two terms, I have been grading for my university's intro to analysis course. Recently the professor who I've been working with told me about an internship opportunity over the summer. He told me he would write me a letter of recommendation and help me get a spot, but I would have to find a different advisor first because he is moving. I'd love to take this opportunity, but I don't know any other professors outside of those with whom I've taken a class.

Do you think it would be appropriate to ask my current numerical analysis professor to be my advisor? I'm doing well in his class, and he knows me by name, but that is as far as our relationship goes. Am I fucked? Does anyone have a similar experience? Help me!
