Influenza pandemics always hit temperate zones hardest. They also hit hardest in winter. One good theory for why is that inhabitants of temperate zones tend to be deficient in vitamin d, especially in winter. Vitamin d is critical for peak immune function.
So if you are half naked, outdoors, in the tropics most of the time, you will have much higher vitamin d levels than those wearing clothing in colder climates.
If Africa has less of a covid19 problem (way too early to tell at this point), this is one possible reason why.
