It's not impossible, though if he truly didn't bother at all, it implies some sort of early childhood conditioning, trauma, or constant issue in his life such that he continually avoided connection across all contexts. I suppose he was a man with a mission so, the hidden hand which provided his visions and so on probably prevented it. That's how it works.
