I think the answer lies somewhere in philosophy. I know Deleuze and Whitehead both tried to connect the sciences with art, and not in a gimmicky way. I have yet to read those work by them, but I think it comes down to a creative process - of bringing novelty/revolutionary thought into this world - that people are moved by. Just as an idea in your give subfield of science may "speak to you", a work of art can because it captures the form of novelty that you resonate with most.
>>11451368I'd agree, in part...going with my previous comment the sublime is when one experiences and overwhelming creative force..For musics, this is why Animal Collective is so great, or at least early anco. They capture a naturalistic mode / process in a pure creative form. I don't get a ton out of visual works, but musics really resonates with me. Further than this natural feeling, the best works drip with revolutionary thought and sounds.
>>11451387This idea is interesting. I have to think about it more, but in a way it is an evolutionary utility to those who aren't bet hedgers. And those with the most successful risk-takers came out on top. But these societies probably had more insane people in the streets.
