What's your general stance on going to grad school?
For me it's easier than a real job (would rather have an RA than a supervisor,) teaching is fun, and the work is typically more interesting. If you can survive the first few years of hell it gets a lot better. Also, there's more freedom with your time when compared to a corporate desk job. I said this to some phd student in my cohort yesterday and he went off on me basically suggesting that I should only pursue an advanced degree if it's the only thing I care about. He went on to say that someone more passionate should be in my spot. I don't actually believe this is a realistic attitude though. Who actually cares about their work more than their family, gf, friends, etc.?
