Send a starship full of rovers or dogs, whatever. If few of them break, fuck em. No need to go around that carefully either. If one gets stuck some other can come over and pull it out. Maybe even specialize them, this one gets a fancy camera, this one a robotic arm, this one a test lab, etc.
