Humans have been broadcasting radio for little more than 100 years. That means in order for an alien civ to have responded with a message and for us to have received it already requires them to be within ~200 light years of us. That covers a pretty big volume, but it's practically nothing compared to the size of the Milky Way, not even getting into other galaxies of which there are hundreds of billions at least. So yeah it's easily possible.

Space is pretty big, and has existed for a very long time. The chances of intelligent life to exist not only in the proximity where communication is possible, but also during the same time period, is pretty slim. That being said, give it some time, perhaps one day we'll get a response.
