>>11441794Earth scientist here. He's not saying anything new. We've known for decades that warmer climate = greener Sahara. The reason is similar to the monsoons of India and the United States. As the sun heats up the desert it causes an increase in air being drawn off the oceans to replace the air which rises over the desert plateau. This increased air from the oceans carry more water and we'll see more rainfall. However, overall desertification across the planet will spread.
This isn't unique. Climate change affects weather patterns across the world. Some places will receive increased rainfall, or increased snowfall for example some glaciers are growing
https://www.enn.com/articles/39854This doesn't change the fact that most are shrinking or gone
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/global-warming/big-thaw/You can even watch them disappear in time lapse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Za5wpCo0SqgSo does the fact that some glaciers are growing prove climate change isn't happening? Of course not. 1% of glaciers growing while 99% disappear isn't roving cimate change is wrong. The same as the fact that we expect the Sahara to get greener doesn't prove that overall the world's deserts will increase.
