I saw an article on the theory of higher dimensions being confirmed. Only managed to prove the existence of the 4th dimension so far. They said they used a fourth variable in the equation for it. What did they mean by this? What is the equation for out 3 dimensions to begin with? I am confusion

Yes I know we live in three dimensions. I'm referring to the hypothesis that there are higher dimensions. What equations and variables would you use to define our 3, and or higher dimensions? I'm not talking about looking at a cube lol, I know we DO, I just want to know the math on how/why we do.
