how does quark confinement make sense?

Where is the energy to do this coming from? Isn't this leading to the 'creation' of matter?

There's no conservation law of "matter". Two photons can produce a positron-electron pair.

with inflation pulling the universe apart from outside the universe it will create a quantum vacuum sufficiently strong enough to require a big bang to bring balance again to the universe

no different than pair production in strong vacuums or Casimir effect

should also point out this comes in discreet energy levels like electrons jumping up into a stable orbit

same with quantum vacuum pair production or big bangs or quark confinement

once the energy pulling something apart reaches the next discreet energy level a particle pair is pulled out of the vacuum to balance it out

the phenomenon of quark confinement is easily understood if you think about the renormalization flow of the QCD coupling constant. we all know about asymptotic freedom, right?

asymptotic freedom says that the coupling of quarks to one another weakens at small distances. therefore we have things like experimentally verified measurements of deep inelastic scattering.

if you take that seriously, then the conclusion is that if you run down to long distances, the coupling constant grows and grows. so the coupling between quarks gets ever stronger if you pull them farther and farther apart. once you push all that energy into separating them, you end up running into pair-production levels of energy. so you end up producing quark-antiquark pairs that neutralize anything that "separates" quarks.

this is all common intuition you could read in Griffiths textbook. the reason it is "controversial" is because math idiots can't derive it from equations. but it's basic knowledge to physicists who deal in these things

Photons don't, so it EM spreads out and weakens 1/r^2
