Bought a thermal camera.
Camera can't see through windows.
Camera can see reflections in mirrors.
The reflective part of the mirror is on the back side of the glass.
This isn't possible.

I’m saying air at a different temperature than the air on the outside or inside of the window, trapped between two panes of glass, is an ir barrier by virtue of how it was designed. That’s the entire point of insulating the damn window.

Window glass isn't the same as mirror glass. Windows are designed to not let in too much IR (especially when it's hot) to keep the house cool. If it's hot outside then chances are the window or the coating is purposefully blocking IR. Mirrors on the other hand are designed to be optically clear and is probably operated inside away from direct sunlight so it can be cooler than the window glass and as a result let more IR pass trough.

It can't see through tempered glass at all.
It can see reflections in mirrors.
The reflection is bounced off the back side of the mirror.

Looking through a window you have an entirely different temperature zone on the other side. Imagine having a hot zone and a cold zone directly behind it. I assume your IRD would only see the hot zone, and not the area behind. A mirror, on the other hand, reflects light back, so are detecting that light. There are some other assumptions i'd like to make but am unsure of. Post IR pics OP.
